Students from the Lewiston Dance Center have been very busy this holiday season. The studio is involved in a number of community activities with its newly established Dance Performance Group. The team's first outing was the Lewiston Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony Friday, Dec. 3, at the annual Lewiston Christmas Walk

On Saturday, the Performance Group joined with students from both Lewiston Dance and the Grand Island Dance centers to perform for the Fireman's Fund Telethon at Niagara Falls High School.

The Dance Performance Group will entertain holiday shoppers at the Prime Outlets of Niagara on Sunday, Dec. 19, at 3 p.m., and for the halftime crowd at a Niagara University basketball game on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011.

Laura Brodie, director of the Lewiston Dance Performers, says, "We are taking full advantage of all of the opportunities the holiday season offers for our group to dance. This is our first season in about six years that we've had a performance group and we want them to get out there in the community and perform.

Rachel Novelli, owner of the Dance Studios and co-director of the group, adds, "It is an important part of the students' dance education to perform for an audience; it requires a different set of skills. The best way to learn is through practice, and they will get a lot of that this season"
