Grand Island's entry into Section VI Federation hockey began with a 4-1 loss to Amherst Saturday at the Northtown Center in Amherst.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first period before GI's Bobby Kerr scored a shorthanded goal, assisted by Bob Ryan, to tie the game at 9:32 of the second period. Just over a minute later, Sam Kraus's goal put the Tigers ahead 2-1, a lead they carried into the second intermission. Amherst's Tyler Larwood scored on a wraparound, the first of his two goals in the third period, which put the game out of reach for GI.
