Bob McKeown, a former Niagara County Community College athlete and head coach, has been named NCCC's new athletic director, College Vice President for Student Services and current interim AD Bassam Deeb announced Thursday on the Sanborn campus.

"We had a very robust search for this position and were extremely satisfied with the group of finalists that visited the campus," stated Deeb. "At the end of the day, I agreed with the search committee's recommendations that Bob McKeown provides us the ability to effectively communicate with various constituents, including the staff, divisional and institutional fit, familiarity with the community college environment in SUNY, and familiarity with the local culture (both campus and the local high school athletic community)."

NCCC President Dr. James P. Klyczek echoed Deeb's sentiment regarding McKeown. "I am happy to see someone who has been so dedicated to NCCC and its students be selected as the next athletic director. With Bob we are sure to be able to push forward with the athletic enhancement plan that has seen campus-wide support," Klyczek said.

McKeown will begin his duties in November, after a brief transition period from his current duties in admissions. "My goal is to help student athletes and their parents to see that NCCC is a great place for not only a quality education, but also a place where students can enhance their overall college experience by continuing their athletic playing careers," said McKeown.

He brings more than 13 years of junior college experience to the table. He has served as NCCC's assistant men's basketball coach, head women's basketball coach, head softball coach, and sports information director. He is a member of the Athletic Wall of Fame at both Starpoint High School and at NCCC.
