Women of the Word (W.O.W.) Bible study begins its 23rd season of bringing God's word to the women of Grand Island and its surrounding towns on Thursday, Sept. 16, at 9 a.m.

This 2010-11 season involves the study of the book of Isaiah and of Hebrews 11 in a question, answer and commentary format. Small groups come together each week to review homework, share prayer concerns and then to worship and hear a teaching on the day's material in a larger group setting.

A long-standing international ministry, W.O.W. was brought to Grand Island by Californian Barbie Bird, and since its inception has functioned as a multi-denominational Christian study. Host church this year is Whitehaven Road Baptist Church at 1290 Whitehaven Road.  Bird's original vision for the ministry was that "women from churches all over Grand Island come together to study the Bible in unity." And this vision has continued to be a mainstay guideline for the 100 plus women who gather each Thursday morning.

The study includes a children's program affectionately dubbed C.O.W.'s (Children of the Word) for kids ages 3 to 5 whose moms are involved in classes. Nursery care is provided for babies and toddlers who are not toilet trained.

Cost for the workbook is $35. Pre-registration is encouraged by e-mailing W.O.W. secretary Karen Vanthoff at [email protected]. For more information call Patty Cancilla at 773-9109 or Kathy Duff at 867-7966.
