Take control of kidney disease

The National Kidney Foundation "Take Control of Kidney Disease through Knowledge" class will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, 621 10th St., Auditorium A, Niagara Falls.

The program is for individuals who have been diagnosed in the early stages of kidney disease or for those with diabetes and high blood pressure who are at risk of developing it.

The class is taught by a registered dietitian and offers basic information about kidney function, chronic kidney disease, conditions that accompany chronic kidney disease (high blood pressure/hypertension and diabetes), slowing the progression of kidney disease, maintaining a healthy attitude, and nutrition and diet guidelines.

The cost of the class is $35 and is covered for the majority of Independent Health, Univera, and BlueCross BlueShield members. Scholarships are available. For more information and to register, call 835-1323. For more information on NKF, visit www.kidney.org.
