The Village of Lewiston Recreation Department reports its annual Country Fair and Community Yard Sale will take place Saturday, Sept. 18.

Event staff is looking for some authentic cowboys (or girls) and some young cowpokes. It's sponsoring a contest for the best-looking cowboy (girl) and young cowpoke in the area. Recreation Director Marianne Gittermann reports there will be two age groups -- an adult division (18 years and up) and a junior division (3 to 12 years old).

To enter the contest, pick up an application form at the mayor's office, 145 N. Fourth St., and return it by Tuesday, Sept. 14.

On Sept. 18, contestants need to arrive at the Red Brick Municipal Building gym at 9 a.m., dressed in western regalia, and conveying a spirit of the Old West. They will need to "walk and talk the part," Gittermann says. Judging will start with an interview and a review of the application.

Two winners in each group -- cowboy/girl and cowpoke -- will be chosen: one by the judges and one by peoples' choice. Each of the four winners will receive a $25 gift certificate to a local business.
