Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has been awarded $25,000 by the Cardinal Health Foundation to support Memorial's new Bedside Medication Administration program.
The initiative will use barcode point-of-care technology to connect caregivers with information systems at the point of care, thereby reducing medication errors and confirming the five essential elements of medication management: right medication, right dose, right route, right patient and right time.
The medical center's proposal was one of only 40 selected nationwide following a rigorous review by a team of clinical experts. The Cardinal Health Foundation awarded Memorial an additional $2,500 to participate in a development program sponsored by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, an independent not-for-profit organization helping to lead the improvement of health care.
