The Youngstown Business and Professional Association welcomes the community to participate in the first "Beginning of Summer Street Dance" on Thursday, June 24, along Main Street in the village.

From 6 until 9 p.m., the whole family can participate in a beach-themed decoration contest and dance to the music of the Carl Motyka Band.

"All businesses will be open and have something to offer," said Cheryl Butera, co-proprietor of Anchor Spirits and a member of the YBPA. Various food items will be sold, and free popcorn will be available.

Younger children can jump in and out of a bounce house or take a pony ride, while parents can take advantage of a wine tasting at Anchor Spirits, located at 113 Lockport St. Beverages are courtesy of The Arrowhead Spring Lake Winery.

Butera said the event "will be the first of many. That's our goal." The YBPA hopes to offer the street dance annually - about a month before the Youngstown Level Regatta. "We're real excited about this," she said, adding there is a lot of enthusiasm in the village, and a spirit of excitement among the restaurant and retail owners.

The "Beginning of Summer Street Dance" is sponsored by the YBPA in conjunction with the Youngstown Board of Trustees, village police and recreation departments, and the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co.
