For many people, finding time to give back can be a challenge. But for both Mary Ruth Baumler and Catherine "Cathy" Daly, volunteering and supporting St. Peter R.C. School has been a way of life for many years.

That's why the pair is being honored at St. Peter's annual "Grand Gala" on Saturday, May 13.

Baumler has spent a lifetime giving back, first at Niagara University for 37 years as a nurse, and then working at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. She's also participated in the realm of religious education for more than 25 years, working at St. Peter R.C. School as a teacher and volunteer.

In fact, though she just celebrated her 90th birthday this past October, she's still busy directing the children's choir and Christmas program each year, as well as leading the rosary every Sunday morning at the parish.

In August of 1966, Daly moved to Lewiston with her husband, John B., and started attending St. Peter's when it was located on Plain Street. During her husband's career in local and state politics, she played a role in many events, fundraisers and parades. However, her steadfast support of the parish and school was always a top priority. In fact, all three of her children went to St. Peter's.

In the early 1970s, she also taught religious education for first communion candidates, lectured, and was a member of the Altar Rosary Society at the parish. Today, she still participates in the Bible study group, and is a Eucharistic minister.

"This recognition serves to honor individuals for their distinguished service at St. Peter's," said Monsignor David G. LiPuma, pastor of the parish. "Both Mrs. Baumler and Mrs. Daly have demonstrated an unwavering support of both our school and parish community over many years, strengthening both in the process. We're so thrilled to honor them, and grateful for their contributions over the years."

The "Grand Gala" will be held at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls, 101 Old Falls St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the evening includes cocktails, dinner, silent and live auctions, and other festivities. Kevin Keenan will serve as master of ceremonies.

Tickets are $75 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the school office at 716-754-4470. Online viewing and bidding will soon be available online at www.spsgala.com.
