Town of Niagara to debut 'Trash to Treasure' event May 28

Fri, Apr 28th 2017 03:45 pm

The Town of Niagara will hold a new "Trash to Treasure" event from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 28, at Veteran's Memorial Community Park, 7000 Lockport Road.

This inaugural event will feature many mini "garage sales," as well as a craft show, food trucks and live music.

"This is a first time event that we felt was worth trying for the residents of the Town of Niagara," Supervisor Lee Wallace said. "Instead of holding your own individual garage sale where just a few people may drive by your home, you can set up your wares in our park and take advantage of hundreds of perspective buyers all in one location. We also see this as the kick-off to our great summer calendar of events being held at Veteran's Memorial Community Park."

Town of Niagara Recreation Department Event Coordinator Amanda Haseley said the event is another idea to bring people to the park and "We constantly see flea markets in other areas that are heavily attended."

She also said, "We decided to include craft show vendors, too, because we got a lot of positive response from the public when we had the craft show last year."

Some of the food trucks slated to be on hand for the event include Viola's Submarine Shop, the Cheesy Chick, the Great Foodini, House of Munch, the Meeting Place and Tim Hortons.

In a video by the Town of Niagara about "Trash to Treasure," Wallace said, "We're trying to make this an annual event, and something different for people to look forward to." The video can be viewed HERE.

All Town of Niagara residents can register for the event for free. There is a $25 fee for nonresidents and craft show vendors.
