The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, has issued a $200,000 contract to Clark Rigging and Rental Corp. for the repair of the lower west operating gate at the Black Rock Lock in Buffalo.

The maintenance work will strengthen the connection between the hydraulic ram and the operating gate.

Gate repair is scheduled to start mid- to late-April and be completed early- to mid-May.

"This is a proactive repair to maintain the lock, ensuring it will continue to operate as designed," said Adam Hamm, USACE Buffalo District chief NY-PA operations and maintenance. "The repair will require an outage and we will do everything in our power to minimize impact to the boating public and lock users during the upcoming navigation season."

Specific outage dates will be published via a notice to navigation interests, and posted to the web page www.lrb.usace.army.mil once they are known.
