Grand Island Board of Education: Lions to conduct eye screenings

Fri, Mar 3rd 2017 05:10 pm

Members of the Lions Club will visit Island classrooms to conduct free eye testing. Members of the club made a presentation to the Grand Island Board of Education at the board's regular meeting Monday and told the board they will visit Kaegebein, Sidway, and Huth Road elementary schools next week to do vision screening.

The screening involves taking a picture of the child's eyes, a process that takes about a minute. During the presentation, Grand Island Lion Tom Witkowski said research indicates 20 percent of children tested need to be referred for expert eye care, and 30 percent in the inner cities.
