The board of directors of the It Happened to Alexa Foundation announced the appointment of Dr. Kate J. Fowler to the position of executive director.

In her new role, Fowler's responsibilities will include conducting community outreach, providing direct assistance to victims, increasing donor engagement and planning and coordinating events. In addition, she will be seeking opportunities for organizational growth through the creation of a new plan that consists of developing expanded educational outreach programs that will target college-age students and increase victim assistance initiatives.

"We are excited to welcome Dr. Kate Fowler to the It Happened to Alexa Foundation," co-founders Tom and Stacey Branchini said. "Her passion for the job and her enthusiasm for It Happened to Alexa Foundation's success are a winning combination."

Fowler comes to the Alexa Foundation from the University at Buffalo, where she directed the UB Kids Voting WNY program, a K-12 democracy-based program that allowed students to participate in their own mock elections that mirrored actual ballots. In addition, Fowler is co-founder of the Buffalo-Tanzania Education Project, where she oversaw fundraising initiatives to construct classroom buildings, outfit a medical clinic, build a playground, and purchase sewing machines for a women's vocational training program.

She is the immediate past president and was instrumental in the creation of the Roundabout Rotary: Buffalo-Niagara Club - a new model for rotary clubs with a focus on providing monthly direct community service opportunities. Prior to her involvement with the Roundabout Club, Fowler was a member of the Rotary Club of Amherst, where she served in such leadership roles as international projects chair, foundation board member and president.

Fowler is a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellowship Award and is assistant district governor-elect for Rotary District 7090.

Headquartered in Lewiston, the It Happened to Alexa Foundation was founded in 2003. IHTAF provides financial, emotional and advocacy assistance to the victims of rape and sexual assault at the time of the trial throughout the U.S. and internationally.
