Erie County DPW Commissioner Loffredo announces retirement

County executive thanks outgoing commissioner, begins search for replacement

Erie County Department of Public Works Commissioner John Loffredo has announced his intention to retire at the end of January 2017, bringing to a close his five-year tenure as commissioner under the Poloncarz administration.

Loffredo began his current term as commissioner of public works in January 2012, overseeing tens of millions of dollars in county infrastructure improvements and assisting in the re-negotiation of the Buffalo Bills' current lease at New Era Field, among many other accomplishments. He previously served in the same post from 1988-2000, primarily during the Gorski administration, but also briefly under the Giambra administration.

"I thank John Loffredo for his years of service to the people of Erie County and for the good work that his department has done throughout the county," Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz said. "Public Works is a big department that requires the ability to manage personnel, timetables and budgets in order to produce the results that residents expect. As such, the search is currently underway for an individual who has the skill set required to replace Mr. Loffredo and continue to provide exceptional service to county residents."

Resumes will be accepted through the close of business on Nov. 23. The successful applicant must be licensed and registered by the state of New York as a professional engineer at the time of appointment.
