Change from annual cycle to benefit grantees with faster, more streamlined approach

The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation has announced significant changes to its grant application process and timeframes, including a change from one to three opportunities per year for its core programs and services grants. The revised approach will offer a shorter, streamlined process; more opportunities throughout the year for organizations to apply; and the ability to make requests across more than one focus area. The Tower Foundation funds organizations in Western New York and Eastern Massachusetts working to improve the lives of young people and their families affected by intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, mental illness, and/or substance use disorders.

The redesigned application process offers a higher level of engagement with the Tower Foundation staff throughout the process, providing potential grantees critical information that can help their applications succeed.

The new core program and services grant cycle replaces the existing annual cycles, which offer one opportunity to submit a request per focus area.

The first opportunity to submit a grant request in 2017 will be in January and then again in May and August. The total time from submission through award will be halved, from six months to three months, under the new guidelines.

Tracy Sawicki, executive director of The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation, said, "The change was made in part based on feedback from grantees and the foundation's goal to be more responsive. We believe increasing the opportunities to apply for funding and shortening the length of time to make decisions is the right way to go. The revised process provides foundation staff more opportunities to work with potential grantees and to build stronger relationships. We want to be supportive of potential grantees so they can get back to doing what they do best: improving the lives of children and their families."

The Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation focuses on improving the lives of young people and supporting families in the communities where Tower family members have lived, worked, and raised their children, including Erie and Niagara counties in New York, and Barnstable, Dukes, Essex and Nantucket counties in Massachusetts. The Tower Foundation's key funding areas support programs and services that maximize success for children, adolescents and young adults in the areas of intellectual disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health and substance use disorders.
