CSAA Insurance Group, a AAA insurer, and AAA Western and Central New York have partnered to support the American Red Cross to promote fire safety and enhance disaster preparedness.

A joint press conference was held Wednesday at AAA WCNY's headquarters, 100 International Drive, Amherst.

The AAA fire safety campaign encourages AAA members to learn about fire safety by viewing an online home fire safety checklist, which is available in both English and Spanish. It includes tips for cooking safety, appliance safety and suggestions for a home fire escape plan. The checklist also encourages escape plan practice drills and timing recommendations for smoke alarm replacement and testing.

For each visit to www.RedCross.org/AAAFireSafety, CSAA Insurance Group will make a donation of $5 to the American Red Cross to install smoke alarms in homes of underserved communities across the nation. The National Fire Protection Association states properly installed smoke alarms cut the risk of home fire deaths in half. Nearly two-thirds of home fire deaths occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.

"Smoke detectors save lives," said David Weber, vice president of insurance at AAA WCNY. "This educational checklist will not only help our AAA members be prepared in the event of a disaster, but will also help the American Red Cross install smoke alarms in the homes of families in need. With the support of AAA members, we can all protect and save lives."

"I am thrilled that AAA is helping people not only on our roadways, but in their homes, as well," said Rosie Taravella, American Red Cross, Western and Central New York, regional CEO. "This partnership will not only help us give hope to people who have lost everything in the blink of an eye, it will also help us prevent these disasters from happening by supporting our 'Home Fire Campaign' and the installation of free smoke alarms in homes that need them."

As upstate New York's largest member services organization, AAA provides nearly 860,000 members with travel, insurance, financial and automotive-related services. Since its founding in 1900, AAA has been a leading advocate for the safety and security of all travelers. Visit AAA at www.AAA.com.
