The Buffalo Sabres announced the Sabres Green Team will partner with the Buffalo Audubon Society from 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in an effort to help clean up the North Tonawanda Audubon Preserve.

With cleaning supplies provided by the Audubon Society, the two organizations will put together an effort to help continue to preserve one of the largest remaining areas of open space within the city limits of North Tonawanda. The preserve is home to large, wooded wetlands with mature forests intermingled with seasonally wet vernal pools. It is also home to numerous species of wildlife, including the small eastern screech owl and other species of frogs, toads and salamanders.

The event will be held rain or shine. Volunteers of all ages will be welcomed and are asked to register at www.sabres.com/green and sign a waiver. Volunteers will meet at 1 p.m. the Kinkead Avenue entrance off Meadow Drive. Parking will be available in the North Tonawanda High School parking lot located on Meadow Drive. For questions regarding the event, contact Tom Kerr at the Buffalo Audubon Society at 585-457-3228 or email [email protected].

The Buffalo Sabres are dedicated to the sustainability of the environment in Western New York and Southern Ontario through the "Blue & Gold Make Green Initiative." The organization is committed to creating programming to help fans reduce their environmental footprint and, at the same time, educate them on conservation issues, teaching fans how to be greener, and directing them to additional resources where they can learn more about environmental issues.

The Buffalo Sabres Green Team is presented by National Fuel's conservation incentive program and supported by green partner Modern Recycling.
