Former Grand Island resident Doug Smith will be inducted into the Western New York Baseball Hall of Fame at a ceremony Sept. 14.
Smith is a longtime newspaperman and scorekeeper for such teams at the Niagara Power, owned by Islander Cal Kern. Smith was nominated for inclusion in the hall by Jon Roth, Grand Island Central School District athletic director, and Al Chester, Hall of Fame baseball manager.
Smith moved to Cortland with his wife, Polly, in March and will return for the ceremony, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Lake Erie Italian Club, 3200 South Park Ave., Blasdell.
