For the 13th year, volunteers from the town's Golden Age Center visited Town Hall to sort and mail the school tax bills.

This year, a group of eight worked Aug. 26 for about four hours stuffing envelopes, bound for taxpayers, who have until Oct. 17 to pay them.

Nonnie Carroll organizes the volunteers twice a year, for the school tax mailings as well as the town/county tax mailings.

The volunteers save their fellow residents money because the town avoids paying overtime to hourly staff or outsourcing the work to a private company.
