Justin Guerin, operations director for the Food Bank of Western New York, was named the 2016 Eastern Region Operations Leader of the Year by Feeding America, the nationwide network of 200 food banks.

Guerin was selected from a pool of nominees across Feeding America's Eastern region for the positive impact he has made at the Food Bank and throughout the Western New York community. He was honored during Feeding America's recent Food Sourcing and Operations Conference in Kansas City.

"It was a privilege to be able to accept the award on behalf of our Food Bank," Guerin said. "Although it was designated for a single recipient, it is very much an organizational accomplishment that speaks to the high caliber of our staff, who are committed to fighting hunger one day at a time."

In his role, Guerin is responsible for the effective operation of the Food Bank's warehouse. He oversees the distribution and delivery of nearly 15 million pounds of food on an annual basis to the Food Bank's 329 member agencies throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties. Guerin's responsibilities also include food procurement and purchasing, facilities management, safety and security, information technology, project management and disaster response management.

"We were thrilled to learn that Feeding America named Justin the Eastern Region Operations Leader of the Year. This prestigious recognition could not have been bestowed on a more well-deserving person," said Marylou Borowiak, president and CEO of the Food Bank of WNY. "Justin is always finding ways to increase the efficiency of our operations so that we can better assist our hungry Western New York neighbors. His wealth of knowledge and passion for our mission has made him such a vital member of our Food Bank family."

Guerin has been employed with the Food Bank since 2002. He resides in North Buffalo.

The Food Bank of WNY is the primary hunger-relief organization in Western New York, obtaining and distributing food to 329 member agencies, including food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, youth programs, and senior centers in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties. Through these agencies, the Food Bank of WNY serves as many as 129,322 individuals in any given month, including more than 44,000 families, 45,000 children, and nearly 17,000 seniors.
