Assemblyman John D. Ceretto has announced resolution 1577 in the New York State Assembly, which brings awareness to diffuse intrinsic pontine giloma. Ceretto sponsored the resolution, which passed on the Assembly floor June 16, and empowers Gov. Andrew Cuomo to declare the week of Sept. 25, 2016, as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Giloma Awareness Week.

DIPG is a type of pediatric cancer that affects the brain.

Niagara Falls City Councilman Ezra Scott approached the assemblyman in May about this resolution, and Ceretto said he was excited and pleased to help bring awareness to this condition.

"I was so pleased to sponsor this resolution on behalf of baby Shawn," Ceretto said. "Bringing awareness to this condition, as well as all types of pediatric cancer, is an undeniably worthwhile endeavor. I look forward to walking with my fellow partners in government as we continue the fight for a cure"."

Ceretto was set to join his colleagues in local government during the "Golden Steps 4 Pediatric Cancer Awareness" event at Niagara Falls State Park today. The assemblyman was to present the resolution to Shawn Kennedy Jr. and Scott at the event.
