Olympics: Dr. Sherri LaShomb assigned as athletic trainer, chiropractor to USA Taekwondo

Dr. Sherri LaShomb is attending the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio as the athletic trainer and chiropractor to the USA Taekwondo team. She is working alongside Lewiston native and Niagara University graduate Bill Kellick, who serves as press officer for both the U.S. Taekwondo and U.S. Weightlifting teams.

Meeting with LaShomb at her practice in Lewiston, you could see the excitement she has for this achievement and also the experienced journey she has taken to get to this point. LaShomb has always had a passion for athletes and their overall health and wellbeing. That passion gave her the drive to use her craft on a larger scale.

Since 2002, LaShomb has been an international certified chiropractic sports science practitioner. She is known nationally and internationally as a sports specialist in chiropractic health care and has extensive clinical experience as an athletic trainer and chiropractor at competitive games around the globe.

Representing the USA at various taekwondo competitions, LaShomb was the athletic trainer and chiropractor at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier earlier this year, as well as the Pan American Games, the World Cup Finals, World Championships and World Poomsae Championships in 2015. Excited to once again be joining the Olympic realms, LaShomb's prior Olympic experience includes chiropractic care at the USA Track & Field Olympic Trials (2008, 2012), the Winter Olympic Games in Utah in 2002, and the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996.

LaShomb received her doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, in 1988. She attained sports diplomate status in 2005 - board eligible - from the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Practitioners.

LaShomb has a long-standing and profound passion for athletes, athletics and chiropractic health, and is wholly committed to providing individuals and teams with the necessary care that enables them to excel in their sport. She is accustomed to working with high-profile athletes, including serving as the chiropractor for Niagara University, ensuring athletes have the optimal health to achieve their athletic goals.

A certified athletic trainer (1997), LaShomb also received a certified chiropractic sports practitioner degree (1994) and worked as the head athletic trainer/team chiropractor for the Buffalo Gladiators and Buffalo Bandits professional sports teams. LaShomb has received numerous certifications in the field of chiropractic and sports medicine, including myofascial Release and Graston technique.

The sole owner of LaShomb Chiropractic Health and Fitness in Lewiston, LaShomb has served in assistant (2000-07) and adjunct (1994-99) professor roles at New York Chiropractic and is an assistant adjunct faculty member at D'Youville College. LaShomb supervised D'Youville College chiropractic interns in sports injury evaluation and rehabilitation and teaches in the chiropractic program's orthopedic classes.

LaShomb also serves as a chiropractic consultant for such varied interests as the First Niagara Center, Shea's Center for Performing Arts and Artpark.

An esteemed professional, LaShomb has received many honors and awards, including Athletic Trainer of the Year from the National Lacrosse League, Outstanding Medical Staff from USA Taekwondo, and Sports Doctor of the Year from the American Chiropractic Association Sports Council. LaShomb also serves as medical director of the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association.
