NT library awarded grant

Assemblyman Robin Schimminger recently announced the North Tonawanda Public Library will receive a state construction grant of $20,250.

The New York State Library has awarded 173 construction grants to public libraries and public library systems throughout the state. These competitive grants are supported by a $14 million capital fund appropriation that had been included in last year's state budget for construction and renovation public libraries and systems.

New funding in the amount of $19 million was included in the 2016 budget for this purpose, which will support another round of construction grants for public libraries next year. This allocation for the construction aid program was increased by $5 million, or 35 percent, which is the first increase in nearly a decade.

Kevin Wall, director of the North Tonawanda Library, said that he is very grateful for the funding.

"The North Tonawanda Public Library gratefully acknowledges the efforts of Assemblyman Robin Schimminger of the 140th Assembly District for helping to secure state grant support for our library," he said. "The funds will be instrumental for facility upgrades that will improve the library building, making it more accessible and convenient for our patrons and helping to ensure that the library continues to be a vital and vibrant asset to the residents of North Tonawanda."
