NBCSN averages 1.3 million viewers for U.S. Women's Soccer victory to open Rio Olympics

Up 107 percent from 2012 London opener

U.S. Women's Soccer team's next game is Saturday vs. France at 4 p.m. on NBCSN

NBCSN averaged 1.3 million viewers for the U.S. women's soccer team's 2-0 victory over New Zealand yesterday on the opening day of soccer competition at the Rio Olympics - topping by 107 percent the viewership for the team's 2012 London Olympics opener (629,000 viewers for U.S.-France).

Viewership for the match (6-8 p.m. ET) peaked in the second half at 1.6 million viewers between 7:30-7:45 p.m.

Highlighted by goals from Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan, the match averaged a .77 rating on NBCSN - up 93 percent from the women's soccer opener in 2012 (.40).

Across NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app, viewers streamed 10.5 million live minutes of Thursday's Olympics coverage (featuring six women's soccer matches) - up 84 percent from the corresponding day at the 2012 London Olympics (5.7 million minutes for six matches).

The U.S. women's soccer team next faces France this Saturday at 4 p.m. on NBCSN. France defeated Columbia 4-0 yesterday.

The opening ceremony for the 2016 Rio Olympics is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
