Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Flaherty, Jr. announced 24-year-old Evander Kane, of Buffalo, a member of the Buffalo Sabres, has been arraigned before Buffalo City Court Judge Barbara Johnson-Lee on one count of criminal trespass in the third degree, four counts of harassment in the second degree, and one count of disorderly conduct.

Kane entered a plea of not guilty.

It is alleged that, on Friday, June 24, at the Bottoms Up bar at 69 W. Chippewa St., Buffalo, the defendant refused to leave the premises after being ordered to do so by a security guard. The defendant is also accused of harassing several people inside the bar.

Kane pleaded not guilty and was released. He will be back in court at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 9 for a pre-trial conference before Johnson-Lee.

If convicted of all the charges, Kane could face a maximum of 90 days in jail.

Flaherty commended the investigative work of the Buffalo Police Department "B" District, including Chief Joseph Gramaglia and Detective Daniel Barrett.

Assistant District Attorney Lynette M. Reda is prosecuting the case.

As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

On July 22, the Buffalo Sabres released a statement reading, "We are aware of the charges against Evander Kane stemming from an incident last month. Our organization will have no further comment at this time."

On Feb. 11, 2015, the Buffalo Sabres acquired Kane, a forward, from the Winnipeg Jets.
