Members of the surgery department at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center recently celebrated the arrival of "SAL II," the medical center's new daVinci XI Robotic Surgical System. The XI, a product of Intuit Surgical, represents a major advance over the daVinci SI System in use at Memorial since 2012. It will be used across a wide spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures for complex diseases and conditions in gynecology, urology, thoracic, bariatric and general surgery.

On hand to welcome SAL II were, from left, anesthesiologist Dr. Justin Eckler; Intuitive representative Tori Schmitz; Carol DiBella, R.N.F.A.; Tina Owens, R.N.; Surgical Services Director Shelly Meigs, R.N.; CNOR Director Michelle Garvey, R.N.; and Dr. Venkat Kolli, Memorial's chief of surgery.

SAL, which stands for "SaveA Life," was named by student Gabriella Baratta in a countywide naming contest for schoolchildren.
