Members of the Buffalo Squash Racquets Association competed in the 4th annual Hospice squash tournament June 1-24 to help support the Jack Beatty Hospice Memorial Cruise and Clambake (one of Niagara Hospice's largest fundraisers). A record $3,781 was raised this year.

The Buffalo Tennis & Squash Club was once again the venue for the event, which has grown each year and has raised $11,666 since it began in 2013. The tournament was created by Gui Alvarez, Buffalo Squash Racquets Association president. Alvarez, an avid sailor, has been a skipper for the Jack Beatty Hospice Memorial Cruise and Clambake for several years. As one of the cruise skippers, he donates his boat and takes event participants for a cruise up the Niagara River.

"The squash tournament was another way of raising money to help support the event and benefit Niagara Hospice," Alvarez said.

Niagara Hospice has provided end-of-life comfort, care and support since 1988 to over 25,000 Niagara County individuals and families faced with terminal illness. For more information, visit www.NiagaraHospice.org or call 716-HOSPICE.
