Niagara Career and Technical Education students embark on educational field trip

Fri, Jun 3rd 2016 10:35 am

Niagara Career and Technical Education students in Karen Krull's graphic communications class recently went on an educational field trip to Rochester. Their first stop was at American Packaging Corporation, a company that prints packaging for commercial food items such as candy, soups and cereals. The students got a first-hand look at the production system and the safety measures involved with working in a food-packaging facility. Student Sydney Montgomery said she found this tour not only educational, but fun.

The class also visited the George Eastman Museum. The institution encompasses one of the world's foremost collections of photography and cinema, including a preeminent collection of photographic and cinematographic technology. The students received a tour of the Kodak camera exhibit.

"I thought the early process of taking a picture was interesting," student Marriesa Birjukow said. "A person had to literally pose for 10 minutes. If they moved, it made a ghost-like image."

Krull said the docent, Ron Piper, gave an outstanding history of photography. "It was a good trip that exposed the students to the technical side of graphics and the artistic, as well."
