Hamburg band moves on to next stage of competition; top prize a trip to Ibiza

Wednesday night, polished pop-rock band So Far So Good took the top prize in the regional Hard Rock Rising showcase inside the Hard Rock Cafe, Niagara Falls USA. The five-piece will now compete with other East Coast acts to advance further into the competition, which will culminate with one outfit chosen to perform at the Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza in Spain.

More than 100 Hard Rock locations around the world were expected to hold similar competitions with unsigned bands. Locally, So Far So Good took top honors in a talented field that included rock band Aaron Forsyth's Rebel Souls (Erie, Pennsylvania), jam band Jimmy Munt & Friends (North Tonawanda) and hybrid rockers Nerds in Denial (Brockport).

Each band performed for about 30 minutes. All four acts took home a collection of prizes.

So Far So Good is comprised of Craig McDorman (lead vocals), Jeff Foley (lead guitar), Carl Messina (drums), Luke Ciminelli (instrumentalist) and Colin Brydalski (bassist).

Judges Wednesday included Richard Sargent, "the Patron Saint of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame"; Justin Rose of GCR Audio; Susan Swiatkowski of The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls/Old Falls Street and the Downtown Niagara Falls Business Association; and Joshua Maloni, managing editor and entertainment writer at Niagara Frontier Publications. A fifth judge, Chelsea O, a radio host at Alternative Buffalo 107.7-FM, doubled as event emcee.
