Town of Niagara holds first farmers market

Fri, May 13th 2016 09:00 pm

The Town of Niagara held its first farmers market Sunday, May 8, in Veterans Memorial Community Park.

"It went exactly as we had planned," said Town of Niagara Recreation Director Amanda Haseley. "We had a large commitment from the community. They all came out and supported it like I knew that they would."

Haseley said approximately 400 cars came through the farmers market. Shoppers browsed local goods and Haseley said flowers and produce were both big hits.

Among the visitors were potential vendors, who expressed interest in joining the market.

"We're going to have more vendors in weeks to come," Haseley said. "We're hoping that we're going to get a sausage vendor and also a cheese vendor."

The Town of Niagara Farmers Market is held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. This Sunday, May 15, free Tim Hortons coffee and Timbits will be given out to the first 100 shoppers who visit the market.
