Conductor Doreen Rao, the Buffalo Master Chorale and Buffalo Niagara Youth chorus will present "Affirmation of Hope: All Things Irish," a night of Irish choral music, instruments and dance to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rebellion in Ireland.

There will be two performances: Friday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road; and Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 10 McClellan Circle, Buffalo.

Members of the Buffalo Master Chorale and the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus will travel this summer to Dublin, Ireland, to rehearse and sing in concert with fellow Irish choristers. The "Anniversary of Hope Festival Tour" will celebrate contributions of Irish history, culture and customs.

Rao is an artist and teacher, Grammy winner and publisher. In a national tribute presented to her by the American Choral Directors Association, conductor Robert Shaw wrote: "The World of choral music owes her special thanks. She is preparing our future."

In 2012 the Buffalo Master Chorale was molded out of the inspiration of Rao's teachings. The vision of the BMC is to provide singers of any age the opportunity for lifelong musical enrichment, enabling the power of the human voice to educate, uplift, and transform communities. Rao, artistic director, and John Fleischman, associate conductor, prepare the BMC as a team. In 2013 the BMC joined with the well-established Buffalo Niagara Youth chorus, founded by Fleischman in 1988. The family of choirs can be found online at bnchoirs.org.

The Buffalo Niagara Choirs are joined by:

•Kindred: David and Felicia Meyer, husband and wife duo, blend voice, cello, guitars, and percussion, giving life to both old and new music in the Celtic tradition, drawing from Irish poets, pubs, and county fair.

•The McCarthy School of Irish Dance of Grand Island was founded in 1990 to share knowledge of Irish culture through dance. Dance master Beth McCarthy has led her students to medals and trophies in competitions across the North America.

Tickets are available at the door or online at www.bnchoirs.org.
