Members of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East approved a three-and-a-half-year collective bargaining agreement with Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in balloting held Tuesday at the medical center.

The agreement covers approximately 620 staff members, including service and maintenance employees, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, technicians and professional employees. The previous collective bargaining agreement expired Dec. 7.

The agreement includes wage increases totaling 8 percent over the life of the contract. In addition, it provides for other benefit enhancements and operational changes.

"We look forward to continuing to work with our longstanding partners at 1199SEIU on key initiatives designed to improve the health of our patient population across the communities we serve," Memorial President and CEO Joseph A. Ruffolo said. "Both bargaining committees worked collaboratively to reach an agreement that supports our valued employees."

"The members of SEIU1199 are content with the ratification of the current collective bargaining agreement," said member and registered nurse first assistant Kelley Gombert. "As a unified body, we look forward to continuing to care for our Niagara Falls community at the new Memorial."
