Higgins announces fire prevention and safety grants available

Congressman Brian Higgins announced applications are now being accepted for the Fire Prevention and Safety grant program through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Friday, May 6.

"$34 million is available nationwide to improve emergency response capability," said Higgins, a member of the House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security. "We encourage local organizations to take advantage of this grant opportunity."

The grants are administered through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program and support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire and related emergencies. The primary goal is to reduce injury and prevent death among high-risk populations.

Grant information is available on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website at: www.fema.gov/fire-prevention-safety-grants. Features include key programmatic updates and application requirements, as well as an application checklist and answers to frequently asked questions.
