Annual event set for June 18-19

The Lewiston Garden Club is thinking spring with preparations now underway for its 11th annual Lewiston GardenFest, slated for Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, along Center Street in Lewiston. Applications for both vendors and for local residents interested in showcasing their gardens are now being accepted for Lewiston GardenFest, which is also part of Garden Walk Buffalo Niagara.

"From offering different beautification ideas to getting expert advice or picking up new plants, Lewiston GardenFest offers a garden-filled weekend for enthusiasts of all skill levels," Lewiston GardenFest chairwoman Doreen Albee said. "We encourage both past and new vendors alike to apply again for this year to help us fill Center Street with everything needed for one's garden or landscape. Lewiston residents interested in showcasing the fruits of their gardening labors should also consider applying to be part of our open gardens."

Businesses and vendors who sell items related to gardening, horticulture and the outdoors - including nurseries, landscapers, garden artists and builders - are encouraged to apply. Vendor applications are due by May 1, and can be downloaded at www.lewistongardenfest.com. The application fee varies from $125-$225 based on the size of the vendor display.

Lewiston GardenFest is also accepting applications for this year's open gardens. Lewiston residents, who are interested in showcasing their own gardens or just a particular section of their yard, are encouraged to apply. Festival attendees will be able to view the participating gardens only when the "Open Garden" sign is in place (between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. during Lewiston GardenFest weekend). For more information or to download an application, visit www.lewistongardenfest.com. The deadline to participate is also May 1.

Located along Center Street, Lewiston GardenFest includes vendors with flowers, plants, garden art and more to beautify one's outdoor space. Speakers each day demonstrate new and different techniques to enhance one's gardens and master gardeners are on hand to answer questions throughout the weekend. In addition, several Lewiston residents open up their gardens to the public and anyone can participate in a container garden contest.

Lewiston GardenFest is free to attend with all proceeds used by the Lewiston Garden Club for civic beautification and scholarships. For more information, visit www.lewistongardenfest.com.
