16-year NHL veteran to serve as development coach

HARBORCENTER Vice President and Director of the Academy of Hockey Kevyn Adams announced the addition of Ethan Moreau to the academy coaching staff. Moreau brings 16 years and 928 games of NHL experience to the academy offerings.

"Ethan Moreau exemplifies the type of world-class coaching instruction that we offer at the Academy of Hockey," Adams said. "Ethan's professional experience, combined with his glowing reputation as a strong leader and community advocate, make him a perfect coach to add to our staff. The strength of our programs has been increased with the addition of Ethan Moreau."

Moreau was selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the 1994 NHL entry draft. He displayed a commitment to academics while playing junior hockey for the Niagara Falls Thunder and was awarded the Bobby Smith Trophy in 1994, which is presented to the Ontario Hockey League's scholastic player of the year. He made his NHL debut with the Hawks in the 1995-96 season and went on to play 928 games, scoring 147 goals (287 points) and compiling 1,110 penalty minutes in 16 seasons with the Blackhawks, Oilers, Blue Jackets and Kings.

Moreau, who resides in St. Catherine's, Ontario, served as captain of the Edmonton Oilers from 2007-10. Following the 2008-09 season, Moreau was presented with the NHL's King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community. Moreau retired in 2012 and served the Montreal Canadiens as a professional scout from 2013-15.

"I have always been passionate about youth hockey development and am extremely excited to join the Academy of Hockey," Moreau said. "As a Southern Ontario resident, I have seen first-hand how the academy has become a development destination for athletes from around the region. I'm honored to add my experience and help to develop the game of hockey on all levels."

As an Academy of Hockey development coach, Moreau will contribute to the academy's dedication to being the premier development destination for hockey players and coaches. Moreau will help develop and facilitate structured, specific programs that encourage and motivate each individual to reach his or her highest playing potential both in-season and out-of-season.
