Buffalo Film League, producer of the film "Buffalo Hates You Too: A Love Story," and home to Lumber City Brand Works, will host an open house for media and film professionals at its new 5,000-square-foot facility in The Wurlitzer Building in North Tonawanda. The event will take place from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 908 Niagara Falls Blvd, North Tonawanda.

The move to North Tonawanda is the culmination of a two-year search for the company's production and distribution facilities, and its digital media labor consortium.

Buffalo Film League Chief Creative Officer Kelly Green Porterfield hopes professionals and those interested in the media and film industry will take advantage of the open house. "We had such a strong response to the consortium's opening two weeks ago that we decided having an open house versus dozens of individual walk-throughs was a good idea. It also gives current and potential members a chance to meet each other."

BFL will work closely with its sister company, Lumber City Brand Works, to produce and distribute the feature documentary "Buffalo Hates You Too: A Love Story," which is directed by well-known Buffalo director John Paget.

In order to attract the labor force needed to complete the film, and begin work on other branded corporate documentaries, BFL created a labor consortium that will seek to bring an additional 30 digital media professionals to Niagara County over the next year.

Visitors to the open house will have the chance to tour the space currently in operation as well as the space undergoing renovation.

BFL Chief Marketing Officer Mike Hendrickson has been busy meeting with potential members over the past several weeks.

"It's enormously rewarding to see the response," he said. "Bringing freelance media professionals together under one banner and roof represents a major step in consolidating labor in the area. We did not expect this much interest this quickly. It's inspiring."

The consortium will seek to add up to 30 new professional and 50 associate /student members in 2016.

Hendrickson said the move to a town known primarily for its historical role in industrial metals, manufacturing and lumber might not look like an obvious fit to many, but to him it is a sure sign of why his company will do well in North Tonawanda.

"The film, digital media and distribution business is made up of hard-working, creative people. To be in the same town that played such an important role in American business and history - The Wurlitzer Corporation, The Herschell Carousel Factory, Richardson Boat, the Erie Canal, the The Riviera Theater - is an appropriate backdrop to the creativity, hard work and spirit we bring to work everyday. Just walking into The Wurlitzer Building is empowering," he said.

Buffalo Film League (www.buffalofilmleague.com) is an LLC registered in New York. Its management team has produced numerous feature-length documentaries distributed by FilmBuff and 365 Film Group and has worked with more than 30 Fortune 500 companies over the past 25 years.
