Members of the Niagara County Builders Association enjoyed dinner and conversation with local elected officials Feb. 10 at the Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls.

George Lodick, second vice president of the Niagara County Builders Association, said the meeting served as a networking opportunity for NCBA members.

"What we wanted to do is give our members the opportunity to interact with local building officials in a setting that wasn't formal ... (like) across a town board meeting table," Lodick said. "We wanted to have an opportunity to talk about what's happening and what developments they are looking at, and some of the things that our builders are looking to do."

Members had the opportunity to discuss "where they are looking to build homes, how our suppliers are affected when homebuilding is delayed and how many people are actually involved in the building industry," Lodick said.

He also said the association hopes to hold this event annually and invite "the key elected officials throughout Niagara County, our state representatives and our county-wide representatives to meet with our members and talk about the issues that we're facing and what developments are happening and how we can work together to maintain affordable, quality housing.

"We've been building homes for quite a few years now. ... Since regulations, rules and changes in various codes affect our members, we like to always have a dialogue with the elected officials and building department, and leadership in the towns and in the state and county governments."

The NCBA meets monthly to discuss business and community-related topics. All members are invited to attend.

"We try to do a little bit of a different theme. Sometimes we'll do (our meetings) at a restaurant; sometimes we'll do them at a Niagara County attraction. We've gone to some of the wineries and different venues across the counties to try and expose our members to what's going on in the county, as well," Lodick said. "It kind of works both ways. We're trying to promote Niagara County as a great place."

The NCBA is part of the New York State Builders Association, and the National Association of Home Builders. For more information, visit www.niagaracountybuilders.com.
