It was a quick night for the North Tonawanda Common Council, which took care of some business after the snow was cleared away Tuesday. The bimonthly meeting was held in front of a small crowd on a night that saw many residents digging out from the day's storm.

"I want to thank everybody for coming out on a pretty rough night tonight and being here for the council meeting," Alderman-at-Large Robert Pecoraro said.

A change in the Planning Board was one of the highlights of the 30-minute meeting. The board unanimously approved the appointment of Peter Grinnell to the Planning Board. He replaces Paul Brown, whose resignation was also unanimously approved.

"I just want to congratulate Mr. Grinnell on his appointment to the Planning Board," North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas said. "I know he's shown an interest in city affairs for a long time and I think (he will) be a real asset on the Planning Board."

Grinnell was on hand for the meeting and also received some kind words from the board.

"I also want to congratulate Grinnell and wish you the best of luck on the Planning Board," Pecoraro said. "I think it's great we have someone of your caliber come on (board) and serve the city stepping forward, offering your support."

The council also granted permission to the North Tonawanda School District to hold a 5K and 1-mile family fun run on April 16. It also granted permission for the Niagara Frontier Boat Racing Association to hold a regatta at Gratwick Park from Aug. 6-7.

Other council actions included the appointment of Tyler L. Dragonette to the position of water treatment plant operator trainee as well as the memorandum of understanding between the city and Local 832 Civil Service Employees Association for the use of compensatory time by water and wastewater employees.
