Assemblyman John Ceretto announced the state's Department of Transportation will install a traffic light at the intersection of I-190 southbound and Packard Road in Niagara.

"Keeping our families safe is one of my top priorities, and this new traffic light will help give local motorists peace of mind as they travel to work, school and neighborhood shopping centers," Ceretto said. "I'd like to thank Niagara Town Supervisor Lee Wallace and Town Clerk Sylvia Virtuoso for their tireless efforts in advocating for and protecting the members of this community."

The intersection of the I-190 southbound off-ramp and Packard Road in the Town of Niagara has seen increased activity in recent years due to local development projects, including expansion of the nearby Fashion Outlet Mall and Military Road corridor. Unfortunately, Ceretto said, this has led to a number of serious and life-threatening accidents at the location.

Early last year, Ceretto alerted the DOT that previous attempts at mitigating the risks of traffic accidents at the intersection had failed and requested installation of a three-color signal to protect public safety. After analyzing traffic patterns at the location, the DOT determined a signal is warranted at the intersection and will install it later this year.

"We're very grateful that, after many years and numerous accidents, the proper resolution is being implemented for the safety of all who travel that stretch of road," Virtuoso said. "Thank you, Assemblyman John Ceretto, for all your efforts!"

"It's a relief knowing that people will be safer driving in that intersection, which has been known to be dangerous," Wallace added.

"It's great to hear after our persistent efforts that DOT has decided to go through with this project," Ceretto said. "To ensure the safety of residents, I hope this important project is completed in a timely fashion."
