Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center President and CEO Joseph A. Ruffolo will receive a 2016 Community Leader Award from the National Federation for Just Communities during an awards luncheon Wednesday at the Buffalo Convention Center.

Honorees exemplify the NFJC's core mission of promoting goodwill, understanding, respect and trust.

Since being chosen to lead the medical center in 2002, Ruffolo, pictured, has led a remarkable turnaround that put Memorial back on sound financial footing and transformed it from a safety net community hospital into a regional center for health and wellness.

In 2015, Ruffolo was named one of the initial recipients of the Move to Include Award by the Golisano Foundation for leading Memorial's commitment to providing model, innovative, community-based integrated health services for people with intellectual disabilities.

Ruffolo serves on the board of the Niagara Falls Education Foundation and is a former member of the YMCA Buffalo Niagara board of directors. He is a former Niagara County corporate chair of the American Heart Association's Heart Walk and former honorary chairman of the Niagara Falls Boys and Girls Club annual auction, the agency's largest annual fundraising event.

The National Federation's Community Leaders Awards recognize individuals and organizations in Western New York who have made significant contributions through their involvement in volunteer activities or their special achievements in specific areas of community and professional life.
