What was life like on the Niagara Frontier during the Colonial era? Students from St. Peter R.C. School were able to get an inside look during a recent visit to Old Fort Niagara as part of "Fridays on the Frontier."

Through the program, students met French soldiers, English captives and Native people, all of whom shared stories about their lives and responsibilities. Led by fourth-grade teacher Ann Yarussi and seventh-grade teachers Catherine Conway and Keely Say, the students also were given the opportunity to interact, role play and ask questions of those they met, as well as experience a real cannon being fired.

The "Fridays on the Frontier" program aligns with the fourth- and seventh-grade state curriculum and introduces students to the important role the Niagara region had in history.
