North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur G. Pappas announced that a new fire truck has been purchased by the city and is currently being constructed at the Sutphen plant in Amlin, Ohio. The new 2015 Sutphen Pumper will hold up to 500 gallons, be able to pump 2,000 gallons per minute, have 234 cubic feet of storage space, and have an enclosed cab that will seat six.

In addition, this equipment will be supplied with a front bumper water inlet for easier connection to hydrants, an onboard generator, and portable master stream pre-connection.

"Replacing our aged equipment for the safety of our residents and firefighters is very important," Pappas said. "This investment is a commitment to making sure the fire department has the necessary equipment when it comes to protecting our citizens."

The total cost for the new fire truck is just over $389,000 and was approved in the 2015 capital budget. Fire Chief John Lapham indicated that the pumper will replace the Engine 4 truck that is currently housed at the Vandervoort Street fire station. The anticipated delivery of the engine is the first full week of January.
