Collins holds posthumous medal ceremony for U.S. Army Capt. Alton J. Loysen

Over the weekend, Congressman Chris Collins released the following statement after holding a posthumous medal ceremony for U.S. Army Capt. Alton J. Loysen, who served this nation in World War II. At a recent ceremony, Collins presented medals to Loysen's wife of 63 years, Antoinette, recognizing his honorable service.

"As the son of a WWII veteran, I have an incredible appreciation for the sacrifices our veterans make to protect our freedoms," Collins said. "Captain Loysen fully embodied what is known as the 'Greatest Generation,' and I was honored to help present the medals he earned for his service to his wife of 63 years, Antoinette, and family members in attendance."

Loysen was assigned to Squadron B, 2517th Unit, Ellington Field, Houston, whereupon he flew 50 missions on B-25 Bombers as lead navigator in the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign. He was the father of two children, grandfather of four and great-grandfather of six.

Loysen's wife and family were presented with the following medals:

• The American Campaign Medal (never received)
• The World War II Victory Medal (never received)
• The Air Medal
• The American Defense Service Medal
• The European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal
• The Honorable Service Lapel Pin
