American Cancer Society 'Making Strides Against Breast Cancer' walk Oct. 17

Thousands of local breast cancer survivors, caregivers, volunteers and corporate and community members will unite Saturday to help finish the fight against breast cancer at the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" 3K walk.

This noncompetitive, inspirational event raises awareness and funds to end breast cancer and provides hope to all people touched by the disease.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk commences at 10 a.m. (rain or shine) from Canalside, 44 Prime St., Buffalo.

Last year, nearly 10,000 "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" participants raised nearly $500,000 in Buffalo for the American Cancer Society to invest in groundbreaking research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by breast cancer; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it's most treatable.

The American Cancer Society Cancer Facts & Figures 2015 report stated an estimated 231,840 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 40,290 will die from the disease this year.

Since 1993, more than 11 million supporters have raised more than $685 million. Today, walks are held in nearly 300 communities nationwide.
