Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard has announced a special alert for the residents of Grand Island following a recent string of vehicle break-ins.

Residents along Love Road were the most recent victims of thefts, with four vehicles broken into during the overnight hours of Aug. 26 and 27. Among items stolen from the vehicles were personal papers, credit cards, purses and an iPod.

The rash of car break-ins on Grand Island has prompted the sheriff's office to urge residents to remove any valuables from their vehicles, especially during the overnight hours, and to lock vehicle doors.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office is encouraging anyone with information or home surveillance footage in the Love Road area to contact the sheriff's office at 716-858-2903.
