This year's concert attendance is up by 50,000 visitors

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. today announced its successful Thursday night concert series will culminate with tonight's performance from R&B trio En Vogue.

Attendance at the Thursday evening concerts exceeded all expectations, with more than 150,000 visitors making their way down to Canalside, an increase of more than 50,000 people from summer 2014. Tonight's concert is expected to draw in the highest number of spectators of the season. To accommodate, there will be an extra video screen at the Canals at Canalside to help assure all concertgoers have a view of the performance.

"The wide variety of music we have seen at Canalside has proven to be a hit with concert goers," ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia said. "Although the summer is coming to an end, we look forward to many of Canalside's great activities planned for the weeks ahead."

Tonight's concert is rain or shine and will kick off at 7 p.m. with local "Battle of the Band" winners. Spinning Jenny, winner of the "Girl Power Battle," will be the opening act, while Chuckie Campbell & the Phaction, winner of the "Hip-Hop Battle," will follow at 8 p.m.

ECHDC said the "Battle of the Bands" series was a great opportunity for Western New York artists to have their music seen and heard by thousands of concertgoers.

En Vogue is expected to hit the stage at 9 p.m., where they will be welcomed with a special presentation by Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

En Vogue is an American R&B female group that formed in Oakland in 1989. After immediate success of their first album, "Born to Sing," they went to redefine imagery of female groups. En Vogue was launched further into mainstream recognition following the 1992 release of their best-selling album, "Funky Divas," which contained No. 1 singles "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)" and "Giving Him Something He Can Feel." En Vogue has sold more than 20 million records worldwide to date.

Canalside is a growing regional destination and entertainment district, situated on 21 historic acres along downtown Buffalo's emerging waterfront on the Buffalo River. Canalside earns its name from its storied past, when the Erie Canal Harbor was built in 1825 as the western terminus of the Erie Canal. Until five years ago, the land was barren and inaccessible, but the area was reclaimed by ECHDC and developed with millions of dollars in public and private investment.
