Fife and Drum Muster and Soldiers' Field Day Aug. 15-16

Join the Friends of Fort George and Parks Canada as they celebrate the 16^th annual Fife and Drum Muster and Soldiers' Field Day. Fort George National Historic Site will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 15-16 for special events, music, muskets, cannons and more. This weekend-long event has become an annual tradition at Fort George, and is packed with firepower demonstrations.

The schedule for Saturday includes music demonstrations by the Fifes and Drums of the 41^st Regiment at Fort George, The Fifes and Drums of the Canadian Fencible regiment Fort York, the Village Volunteers and The Drums Crown Forces 1812. Additionally, infantry units from historic forts across Ontario will demonstrate early 19^th century military tactics, including musket and cannon firing. The Friends of Fort George will offer a barbecue lunch from noon until 2 pm. inside the fort.

A special evening tattoo performance will take place and feature musical demonstrations by HMCS STAR and fife and drum corps from historic sites in Ontario and the nearby U.S. Infantry units from Fort George, Fort Malden, Fort York, Fort Erie and the 10^th Royal Veteran's Battalion will highlight military tactics from the War of 1812 as part of this special event.

Tickets for the evening show will go on sale at 6 p.m., and the gates will open at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. The performance is general seating; lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. There is a special package deal for those who would like to visit the fort during the day and attend the evening show.

The gift shop will be open from 6-7:30 p.m. Drinks and light snacks will be available.

On Sunday, fife and drum demonstrations, as well as military tactical demonstrations, will take place throughout the day at Fort George.
