Take note, parents looking for some fun daytime activities for children: From Tuesday, Aug. 11, through Friday, Aug. 14 (weather permitting), the Kenan Center will offer life-size game boards on the grounds of 433 Locust St., Lockport. Checkers, Twister, Jenga and Yatzee boards and game pieces will be available from 1-5 p.m. (and until 7 p.m. Friday).

Additionally, budding artists can try their hands at cartooning with comic book artist Jeff Perdziak as part of the summer recreation program. Perdziak will offer hands-on workshops from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, and from noon until 2 p.m. Friday.

The recreation program takes place at the Kenan Arena and is open to children ages 7 to 15. A daily flat fee of $10 covers child's participation between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. No pre-registration is required.

Finally, at 9:30 a.m. Friday, the Kenan Center will welcome back the zany storytelling troupe from Niagara University called N.U.R.T. for a free, all-ages performance in the Taylor Theater. The lively interactive show is approximately 45 minutes long with a reception to follow.
