Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue will be present with adoptable dogs Sonny, Cher and Dreyfus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. this Saturday, July 25, and from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at the annual flea market at Canal Fest of The Tonawandas. The rescue will be set up at Clinton Park (Clinton and Broad streets) in Tonawanda.

The beautifully shaded, quaint park "in the round" is an ideal place to visit the adoptable dogs, find out about the adoption process, and upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

A different kind of adoption event will combine a fun night of shopping and support HON at the same time. The rescue will be present with adoptable dogs from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Wild Things, 224 Lexington Ave., Buffalo. Wild Things is
hosting what is described as "a dreamy shopping experience in the heart of
Elmwood Village. ... 'A Midsummer Night's Dream Girl's Night Out.' "

Shoppers and supporters can stop by, shop, enjoy refreshments and take part in a basket auction and surprise earring giveaways. Wild Things features artisan jewelry (including custom bridal) made by local designers, as well as ceramics, prints and textiles.

Its sister store, Turnstyle Designs, a unique clothing and accessories boutique within walking distance (298 Ashland Ave.), also will participate in the sale. Both stores are donating 15 percent of the evening's sales as well as 100 percent of the basket auction proceeds to the rescue.

Heart of Niagara is a not-for-profit companion animal rescue organization based in Niagara County. Its mission is to protect the health and welfare of abandoned, unwanted and homeless animals. To date, volunteers have adopted out more than 330 animals.

HON operates solely on donations and the generosity of the public and business community. For more information, contact Linda van Harssel at 716-622-1213 or call HON's main number at 716-345-7129.Visit the HON website at www.heartofniagara.org.
