Members of the Niagara County SPCA and the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce participated in a press conference Wednesday to discuss efforts designed to curb the feral cat population in Lewiston. A campaign began Wednesday to engage Lewiston merchants and the community in an effort to collect funds devoted entirely to the spaying/neutering of feral and stray cats.

Participating businesses will receive half-sheet orange paper cats. Customers can donate a dollar to the campaign (or choose to round up their bill to $1).

"Every cent raised through this endeavor will be dedicated to the control of cat overpopulation in Lewiston, so that there will be no charge to the residents of Lewiston," Niagara County SPCA Director of Marketing & Development Polla Milligan told the Sentinel.

Spearheading the movement are the Orange Cat Coffee Co., M&T Bank, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce and the SPCA.
